Survey for research. 10 points for the best help. Thank you very much?

I am thinking of writing a thesis about Public Opinion on Capital Punishment based on socieconomic and race.

Here are hypotheses testings:

White are more likely to support capital punishment than African American? ---Please pick one

Strongly agree, agree, no opinion, disagree, or strongly disagree

The rich are more likely to support capital punishment than the poor? --please pick one again.

Strongly agree, agree, no opinion, disagree, strongly disagree.

Please help answer the two questionaires above..

******************************

P.S. This is just a rough draft. I am not sure whther this is a good idea. Please feel free to give advices or suggestion

I agree on both of your points. Here's my reasoning: people's opinions are based on their experiences and people of different races and different socioeconomic statuses have very different life experiences. Wealthier people have more resources to evade a death penalty sentence than those who are limited to a (possibly overworked) court appointed defender. Also, it is believed that Caucasians and African Americans are treated differently by the justice system, making black people more wary of a system that tends to be prejudice against someone with dark skin.

I would recommend asking people of different races your first question (you know, check the box of your race) OR asking African Americans and Caucasians whether or not they support the death penalty then comparing the two groups. OR you could pass out each question to different people. Meaning maybe you survey 100 people on whether they agree or disagree with your statement, then survey 100 people on their opinions to see if perceptions match the facts.

Doing this with rich/poor variables is more difficult because you may have to define them ( I know my professors would have required that!) but you could definitely give it a try!

Good luck!
Reply:white are more likely to support capital punishment tan african american. AGREE

The rich are more likely to support capital punishment than the poor. no opinion.
Reply:I agree with the first point because I believe African Americans have been treated poorly in our justice system through out the ages and most often are not given fair trials for example what happened with Jena 6.

As for rich people I strongly agree because most rich people have the power of attorney on their side as for poor people who are stuck with cheap state lawyers who don't give a damn.
Reply:White are more likely to support capital punishment than African American? ---agree ,there are many more black people up for execution then there are white people and black criminals tend to have a higher amount of support from people on the outside.

The rich are more likely to support capital punishment than the poor? --disagree i don't think being rich or poor has an effect on that opinion.

you asked for my opinion on the questions, my opinion would be that they are neither here nor there , they don't support anything. as i wrote my opinion so could anyone else. a better way to set this questionnaire might be something like this.....

begin with an income bracket question... what is your annual income?

then ask about there race black, white ect.....

then simply ask if they support capitol punishment.

your results will be something tangible now rather then just people guessing what other people think, this as I'm sure you know is bound to be biased.
Reply:White are more likely to support capital punishment than African American? ---no opinion. It's just a matter of justice.

The rich are more likely to support capital punishment than the poor? --agree.
Reply:I just did a paper on capital punishment in my SOC class!

1. agree

More African-Americans are on death row. What's interesting is that crimes that involved victims of the white race resulted in the death penalty, than crimes that had African-Americans involved.

I don't strongly agree, because I've seen a lot of families where their loved one was killed by a criminal, and that criminal was sent to death row. And they still opposed of the death penalty.

2. agree

The rich have a quite large advantage if they are convicted of murder and could face the death penalty. They can bribe crooked officials and politicians, and money helps in a lot of those situations ;D Whereas most of the African-Americans that are convicted don't have the money advantage.
